Presentation

Charlotte Bailey is an artist born in 1989 in the United Kingdom. She currently lives in Brighton, on the South coast of England.

She has a degree in embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework.

Her work is a meticulous mix between pottery and embroidery, creating a new art. This practice is a modern reinterpretation of the "Kintsugi", Japanese ancestral art consisting of repairing pottery broken with gold.

Charlotte Bailey reappropriates this traditional art and combines it with her contemporary vision. It is no longer a question of throwing, but rather of embellishing and highlighting the fissures while erasing them under a new appearance. She uses her experience as an embroiderer to assemble the shards previously covered with textile to restore the object to its original shape. She presented her work for the first time at the exhibition "The Enchanted Forest".

This idea came to her at a party when she accidentally broke a Ming dynasty porcelain vessel in a friends house. She never quit reconstruction after that.

During her course she had the opportunity and the chance to work on the wedding dress of the Duchess of Cambridge. In parallel, she also works for the Ateliers Hand and Lock in London, perfecting herself in embroidery and is at the service of clients such as Louis Vuitton. Always on alert, she is present at London Fashion Week 2014 for the Mary Katrantzou collection.
