Presentation

Hollis Dunlap is an American artist born in 1977 in Northern Vermont in the USA. He graduated from the St Johnsbury Academy in 1995 and obtained a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in 1999. Since then, he has been working as a painting and anatomical drawing teacher, a drawing and landscape and still life painting teacher at the Lyme Art Association of Old Lyme, at the Garde Arts Center of New London, Mystic Arts Center of Mystic and at Lyman Allyn Museum of New London.

Hollis Dunlap is part of this emerging artist generation that combines classic to contemporary, at the same time fascinated by the realistic techniques of the great masters as Caravage, Michel-Ange and Vermeer and by the modern painters as Diebenkorn. The alliance of a flawless technical mastery with a spontaneous brush stroke characterizes the hybrid approach of Hollis Dunlap.

For this artist, "you must learn the rules before breaking them". With a classical technique, Hollus Dunlap creates narrative artworks with a resolutely contemporary sensitivity based on the representation of the human figure - even if he also realizes still lifes and landscapes.

Hollis Dunlap's artworks have been shown in many exhibitions in the United Stated, including at the 1261 Gallery in Denver (2015), at the CK Contemporary Gallery in San Francisco (2014), at the Axelle Fine Arts Gallery in New York (2014), at the Katherine Cone Gallery (2014), or also at the Q Art Salon in Los Angeles (2013).
