Ivan Tzonev

Born in: 1957 Bulgaria

Emergent Artist

Biography

Born in Gabrovo (Bulgaria) in 1957, Ivan Tzonev has a long artistic career. After his artistic studies he worked as a textile painter, then as teacher and decorator before moving to Paris. This is where he decied to dedicate himself entirely to painting.

Influenced by expressionist painting (Soutine, Van Dongen, ...), Ivan Tzonev paints mostly faces. The empty eyes of his characters are an invitation for us to dive into the depths of our own souls.

Ivan Tzonev's brush strokes are energetic, even nervous. The movements are guided by the black lines that contour the shapes. His palette alternates between dark and bright colors, juxtaposed violently to create contrasts on the canvas.
