Ann Thomson

Born in: 1933

Australia

Ann Thompson was born in 1933.

She lives and works in Sydney and she took part in numerous exhibitions in Australia and abroad, especially in China, France, Belgium, the UK, Italy and Germany.

In 1992, Ann Thompson represents Australia at the Universal Exhibition in Seville, producing a monumental sculpture entitled ?Australia Felix? for the Australian Pavilion.

Her paintings are originated by her subconscious in connection with a place or an image.

She is fascinated by suspended elements and her artistic obsession is that of the reality that lies beneath the surface. Her vivid calligraphy also evokes the cave paintings of the aboriginal people in Northern Australia.

Ever since the early stages of her career, Ann Thompson has been interested in water turbulence and in all the objects connected to these phenomena; she is also interested in the invisible movements of air and in their effects.

Her paintings are full of flying machines, sails, and windmills. This obsession is very presents in her sculptures and her kinetic objects that she develops at the same time with her painting practice.
