  • About the artwork

Interview with franck Doat for magazine 'Photographer' release in October 2013.

When and how did you started in photography? Could you tell us about your journey.

My course is recent, since I started this job as qu ' artist, ten years ago, when in 2004, I was noticed by an agent who allowed me to get into this career. I first started by painting see my site Then like some artists, I turned to other media including photography, which I you a real passion (it just might also be my family roots because my great-grandfather was even a photographer warned). It is four years that I devoted entirely. My first realization (Statue) was devoted to an exhibition 'Eco art parade' in Principality of Monaco for the safeguarding of the Bonelli's Eagle for the Foundation of the Prince Albert II sovereign in 2009. This work is now owned by SBM and is on permanent display in the Gallery of winter in Monte-Carlo Sporting.
I am a self-taught artist and I stay because I obey no rules. I want to highlight above all is this artistic and creative side that is in me and photography is an ideal tool and thus offers me everything I am looking for. Some will not consider me as a real photographer because I do not photograph ' 'the moment' although sometimes this happens to me, but for me what interests me is that this tool gives me material to my creativity, to my imagination. I am an artist and I want to remain and as such, I can afford to make mistakes and I assume it completely. I do not have in my opinion a real photographic approach but it is above all an artistic and creative approach.

How would you define your photographic approach?

I in fact difficult to talk about my work and I prefer it to be the visitors who gives his impressions. That I Express through photography, may he even sees something else entirely. J ' like especially when the visitor passes in front of my work that it is insignificant to a known place "ah it is still a cliché of...» "and all of a sudden by observation, he sees something else that appeals to him.
It is true that if you look closely, there is the perspective, chiaroscuro and another which is a composition.

Could you tell us about these pictures?

I called my work photographic 'differently' or "Surrealist World". During my travels (travel), I take many clichés (during my trip to the Lebanon, I realized nearly 3000 photos. It is true that this country much inspired me and there are many elements in my photographs. I obtained a large database that I class by theme, by genre etc... and then to just my work as an association. At the beginning, I started by the distortion of images. This technique approximated more closely to my paintings. Now, I went to another source of inspiration in which I associate items loans the nature, architecture and the urban world. J ' loves contrasts, oppositions. It is true that I can and want to show the reality of our time between the world of the haves and that of poverty. Thus, on one of my photographs, I associate the Empire State Building in New York and the image of a poor neighborhood of Beirut. I love these oppositions. Some of my photos are very spiritual, others close to nature and the urban world, with other Surrealists. I love everything related to places, landscapes, environment and heritage of the cities. It is above all a work of observation and creation. I am inspired little news and events that mark the world but it is true that sometimes without wanting to or so deep within me, the themes occurring most often affects the protection of the environment, the protection of our heritage through another look, the defence of human values and the fight against inequalities.

What is photo successful for you?
A photo is successful when the elements that compose it are more than one, that light is ideal and that especially the cliché that is the fruit of my imagination appears as if it really existed and therefore the illusion is perfect.
