    "Cavallo e Trovatore" is an original hand-signed etching realized by Giorgio de Chirico in 1969. This is an edition of 100 prints.

    It was published in the general catalogue "G. de Chirico: Catalogo dell'Opera Grafica 1921-1969", by Alfonso Ciranna, edizone "La Medusa", Roma, 1969, n. 171.

    Passepartout included: 50 x 40 cm.

    The widely renowned precursor of Surrealism was the Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978). De Chirico’s definitely ambiguous artworks of cityscapes are the most celebrated examples of a movement called Pittura Metafisica, or Metaphysical Painting.

Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) était un peintre, sculpteur et écrivain italien inventeur de la peinture métaphysique placée sous le signe de la révélation.

Il s’installe en 1911 à Paris et fascine en premier lieu Guillaume Apollinaire qui, dès 1913, introduit l’artiste dans son cercle – Picasso, Derain, Max Jacob, Braque, Picabia, etc. – ainsi que Paul Guillaume, son premier marchand.

L’onirisme, la dimension prophétique, les subtiles incongruités et les décalages observés dans l’œuvre de Giorgio de Chirico ont, dès le début des années 20, d’immédiates résonances sur le surréalisme naissant, de Magritte, Ernst à Picabia et Eluard. André Breton voit en l’artiste le démiurge d’une « mythologie moderne » en formation (1920) avant de l’accuser de régressions anti-modernistes dès 1926.
