Alice Lebredonchel

Founder of Jeudy Arty

Jeudis Arty gives everybody a chance, expert or novice collector, contemporary art specialist or not, to discover the universe of galleries through an unprecedented nocturnal. Private viewing, performances, encounters with artists or guided tours, Thursday 1st June offers an arty evening in galleries at the heart of the Marais quarter. For this occasion, we asked Alice Lebredonchel, creator of Jeudis Arty a few questions.

ARTSPER : Your next edition will be held on October 15th : has your concept changed or is it the same ?

Alice Lebredonchel: The concept is the same, a nighttime gallery walk in the Marais district until 10pm punctuated by special events such as guided tours, talks with artists, and happenings all throughout the evening. The night ends at the Carreau du Temple with a closing party.

ARTSPER : The originality of the Arty Thurdays lies in the cultural mediation you offer. Can you tell us more about it ?

Alice Lebredonchel : The original concept of the Arty Thursdays was to attract the widest audience possible. And for this, it is necessary to provide quality mediation to the work, to help the audience understand contemporary art. It is the goal of the hour and a half-long themed guided tours we organize.
For our 5th edition, we have 5 themed guided tours: “90 minutes to understand contemporary art”, “Focus on contemporary photography”, “Women artists” and “(Hi)stories- how artists tell stories”. This time we also propose to discover one artwork through the eye of the artist.

ARTSPER : What are the musts event this time?

Alice Lebredonchel : As for the last editions, many artists will be present, and visitors will be able to talk with them: the street artis Speedy Graphito at the Polaris gallery, Jacques Percontes at the Charlot gallery, the young Libanese artist Stéphanie Saadé at the Anne Barrault gallery, and Elvire Bonduelle at the Laurent Mueller gallery.
There will also be major happenings and performances during the closing party at the Carreau du Temple – as well as music of course!

ARTSPER : Is the selection of galleries the same or is there new participants?

Alice Lebredonchel : It changes at each edition: some galleries leave, other come. It allows us to renew ourselves. What does not change is the fact that selected galleries have to propose quality and innovative exhibitions, and show the desire to educate their audience.

ARTSPER : How did you select them at first?

Alice Lebredonchel: We went to the galleries who exhibited artists we liked and offered a quality mediation to the work. For us, those are the two crucial elements.

ARTSPER : What is there feedback on the Arty Thursdays ?

Alice Lebredonchel: From the start of the project, we received a lot of positive feedbacks from galleries and we try to listen to their needs, because the event is about them. Galleries are demanding but they also advise us very generously. It allows us to improve our event since the first edition in 2014.

ARTSPER : Why only three editions a year?

Alice Lebredonchel: We do not want to exhaust our audience or the galleries, who have a very busy schedule in between all the international fairs during the year and their own exhibitions. The idea is to propose something different each time and to improve ourselves from one edition to another, so it takes some time.

ARTSPER : Do you plan to make additions to your initial concept in the future?

Alice Lebredonchel: I plan to develop guided tours all throughout the year, because there is a strong demand for it, from individual visitors but also from companies. We are also always seeking new partnerships, and we are proud to partner with YIA Art Fair this year. Our events have a lot in common and we share a lot of galleries too.
