Was Alien Art Born?
Massimo Lunardon is a homo faber, a highly cultured craftsman who is able to manipulate glass in order to transform it into a playful form - an alien creature who has landed on earth to meet humans and make jovial contact with them. His beings are Martians with a human face that the artist creates in his laboratory opened in 1996, which seem to come from the pages of Isaac Asimov or scenes from the animated film WALL-E. The beings of Lunardon are the port of a journey made up of continuous solicitations, in an attempt to go beyond the physical and chemical limits of the material. Through his experience as a master glassmaker, the artist creates his sculptures in borosilicate glass, thin and light, and at the same time very resistant. It is ideal for creating works made to leave museums and galleries in order to come face to face with the public in the streets and squares of Murano, as happened in 2010, during his personal exhibition, in Venice. The beings of Lunardon, with their skin / reflecting surface, on which the human silhouette of those who observe them is reflected, say a lot about us humans, our fragility, our decadence and precariousness and our miseries and weaknesses.
He has collaborated with various companies such as Artemide, Driade, Flos, Memphis, Bisazza, Luxit, Metalarte, Yamagiwa, creating prototypes and objects in limited series.
He has produced limited series productions for designers such as: Andrea Anastasio, Ron Arad, Aldo Cibic, Javier Mariscal, Marc Newson, Denis Santachiara, Matteo Thun, Bob Wilson, Michele De Lucchi, Sam Baron, Martino Gamper, Jaime Hayon , Andrea Branzi. Teacher since 1998 at the Vetroricerca Glass Art Design school in Bolzano,
Since 1992 he has participated in numerous exhibitions (individual and collective) in Italy and abroad, in art galleries and museums.
