Presentation

Djamel Tatah was 22 when he entered the Saint-Etienne School of Fine Arts.
Between 1981 and 1987, he went several times to Algeria and visited archaeological sites. He therefore chooses to insert archaeological elements in several of his paintings, referring man to his origins, his past and his history. In 1989, he presented his first solo exhibition at the Ax Actuel gallery in Toulouse.
In 1999, he entered the Liliane and Michel Durand-Dessert gallery in Paris. In 2000, the artist exhibited with Valérie Jouve at the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens and the following year at the Confluences gallery in Lyon. In 2002, the Salamanca Art Center offered him a personal exhibition. In 2006 and 2008, the Kamel Mennour gallery offered him two personal exhibitions. In 2006, he participated in the Air de Paris exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, then obtained a personal exhibition at the Center d'Art Contemporain Le Parvis de Tarbes the following year. In 2010, he was invited by Eric de Chassey to exhibit at the Académie de France in Rome, Villa Médicis. The following year, the Château de Chambord invited him for a personal exhibition.
In 2013, a large monographic exhibition was devoted to him at the National Public Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Algiers in collaboration with the Villa Médicis and the Maeght Foundation, under the direction of Eric de Chassey. This exhibition is then hosted at the Maeght Foundation. In 2014, he exhibited at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Saint-Etienne Métropole. In 2018, the Lambert Collection in Avignon devotes an important exhibition to him where his works interact with that of minimalist artists from the Lambert Collection.
