Biography
Cathie Berthon was born in 1968 in Marseille. His works have been exhibited in galleries in France but also in Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam and Boston, and in international Contemporary Art fairs in New York, London, Milan and Brussels.
In the Colorized Photos series, the artist draws on his travel photos. Desaturated then printed on wood, the photos are then completely recolored with inks, worked like a watercolor, with diffusion effects. The original colors are sometimes changed to give the illusion of old photos. The transparency of the inks and the epoxy resin magnifies the colors and gives depth to the subject.
The Cubes series plays on volume with photographic compositions mixing personal photos and classic or modern works. These wooden cubes of different heights pixelate a photographic composition which is transferred manually onto the support, which reveals the grain of the wood. Each cube is resinated as well as the bottom of the work. These half-painting, half-sculpture works offer a surprising 3D effect.
The “Vintage" series aims to recreate a story with fragments of memory shrouded in nostalgia and poetry. It consists of assemblies of vintage photos, papers and antique fabrics.
