Biography
Elena Lecuona Monteverde was born in the Canary Islands, although she soon left for Madrid where she studied Fine Arts at the San Fernando Academy. From a very young age she was interested in painting, she liked to draw since she was three or four years old. It was also something she always saw in her family, since her grandparents and uncles were painters, a fact that made it possible for her to feel a special attraction for art from her earliest childhood. After graduating in 1969, he began his exhibition career, participating in numerous national and international exhibitions and competitions. Her paintings have been exhibited in great artistic centers: Salon de Jeunes de Paris and Brussels, Joan Miró Prize, Contemporary Artists of the General Direction of Fine Arts, Canary Artists of the 20th Century of the Néstor Museum, Ateneo de La Laguna, etc.
This great artist from Tenerife, gifted with a refined pictorial technique, represents in her works still lifes or natures of an enigmatic strength, as well as chimerical characters with human appearance, wrapped in ostentatious and fantastic clothes, and vibrant lights that impregnate her scenes with a subtle, esoteric and hypnotic halo. They are works that configure an imaginary and an aesthetic marked by a great personality, something that defines by itself her mark as an author deeply committed to the representation of beauty. - María Mateo
