Presentation
Chantal is a self-taught abstract painter from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Her paintings are collected throughout the world: Canada, United States, Australia, Singapour, Mexico, China and many countries in Europe. Her works has been featured in Circle Quarterly Art Review Magazine, curated by Myrina Tunberg Georgiou.
Chantal's abstract paintings express the world through colours, movement and spontaneity. She does not seek to represent her surroundings, but rather to create emotion in the observer. This emotion is undoubtedly the fruit of the interplay of colours and spontaneous gestures that underlie each work. The pigments are applied in large, spontaneous and rapid gestures where the subconscious takes up more space than the conscious.
When she starts a painting, she works with pure colours, mixing them right on the canvas. You can still see the brush marks in the final work. She adds crayon, graphite and charcoal marks. Several of her paintings are enhanced with writing. Even as an expressive painter, Chantal pays a special attention to colour balance and composition.
