Presentation

Gianni Motti is a contemporary Italian artist, born in 1958. He currently lives and works in Geneva.

His disruptive and daring art manifests itself in the form of sporadic and repetitive interventions in reality. Through reappropriation, it parasitizes the news, passes on its messages, its criticisms, and comes to question humanity and express its protest.

Some examples: he announces his death in the newspapers and orchestrates his funeral, he introduces his content in the newspapers, organizes a national demonstration by telepathy in Colombia to incite President Samper to resign. He even appropriates the facts of nature beyond human reach. He claims for example the explosion of the shuttle Challenger, the earthquake of June 28, 1992 in California, or even the destruction of the solar system through his work "Big Crunch Clock" which is quite simply a count providing for the end of the solar system.

"Being at the right time in the wrong place" is the motto of this omnipresent and omnipotent artist.

He exhibited at the Swiss pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2005, at MAMCO in Geneva, at the Palais de Tokyo, at the Center Pompidou in Metz, and at the Jeu de Paume.
