Bernadette Morand

France

Biography

Bernadette Morand lives and works in Pornichet, Pays de la Loire, France. She works mainly with acrylic and Chinese ink, painting on canvas, however, she makes colourful collages as well. Her artworks are a rare example of the power of abstraction, the great American and French post-avant-garde tradition. They are extremely decorative and remarkable for their bold use of colour. Morand's painting is intuitive, yet full of drama and spontaneous expression. It evokes not only the tradition of the greatest artists of the Informel and lyrical abstraction era, including Joan Mitchell and Zao Wou-Ki but also echoes John Hoyland fascination with colours and shapes. Bernadette Morand's pure abstraction works on the viewer quickly: that combination of colour, form and composition provokes an almost instinctive, instant response.
