Biografia
Gianni Dova nasce a Roma nel 1925. Studia a Brera con Carrà e Funi. Nel 1946 figura tra i firmatari del manifesto "Oltre Guernica". Gli anni '50 sono molto intensi per l'artista che produce un gran numero di opere. Nel 1947 espose alla Galleria del Cavallino a Venezia ed alla Galleria del Naviglio a Milano. Sempre nel 1947 aderisce al Movimento Spazialista con Lucio Fontana, Roberto Crippa, Giorgio Kaisserlian, Beniamino Joppolo, Milena Milani, Antonio Tullier, Sergio Dangelo, Carlo Cardazzo, Cesare Peverelli, Gian Carozzi. Dova, fu tra i protagonisti di questo movimento cresciuto intorno alla Galleria del Naviglio di Carlo Cardazzo e ne firmò diversi manifesti tra cui: Manifesto dell'Arte Spaziale- Milano 26 novembre del 1951;Lo Spazialismo e l'arte Italiana del secolo XX°; Manifesto del Movimento Spaziale per la Televisione - Milano 1952. Aderì in seguito, al movimento della pittura nucleare con Enrico Baj e Sergio Dangelo. Dal 1956 Dova lavora ad Anversa, dal 1957 a Parigi. Il successo internazionale è garantito e molti mercanti si offrono di stipulare un contratto con lui. Si dedica anche intensamente all'incisione. Dopo un primo periodo posta-cubista tra il 1950 e il 1953 compie delle ricerche "tachiste" sotto il nome di " Macchie ". Dal 1954 si dedica a ricerche surrealistiche che risentono dell'influenza di Max Ernst. A partire dal 1969, quando si trasferisce sulla costa bretone, inizia il "Periodo della luce". I soggetti prediletti sono uccelli, fiori, rocce, alghe e giardini di Bretagna. Mostre personali: la prima personale è del 1947 alla Galleria del Cavallino a Venezia. Dal 1950 espone regolarmente al Cavallino di Venezia e al Naviglio di Milano. Nel 1957 espone al Palais des Beaux Arts a Bruxelles e alla Galleria Durand di Parigi. Ha esposto nelle principali gallerie pubbliche e private, italiane ed estere. Ha partecipato più volte al Salon De Mai di Parigi- e alla biennale di Venezia dove nel 1966 gli è stata dedicata una grande sala personale. Le sue opere esposte nei più importanti musei e collezioni del mondo, hanno ottenuto numerosi e significativi premi. Muore a Pisa nel 1991.
