Presentation
Edmond Li Bellefroid works in acrylic, oil, found prints and objects, graphics and illustration, often combining mediums. In his work, cultures, time periods, and styles also meet, transform, and evolve into each other. At turns playful and profound, his images incapsulate others, depicting the many levels of reality we inhabit simultaneously. The dizziness of nineties TV explodes into a nineteenth century still-life; luxury branding outfits an ancient print; the unmissable fluorescence of our fantasies drapes itself over a landscape, eclipsing the horizon.
No stranger to these interstices, he is rooted in them, product of the coming together of his father, a French diplomat, and his mother, renowned Chinese painter Li Shuang, who provided him with the fundaments of his artistic education. He has also studied graphic design, and worked at the Théatre du Soleil with Ariane Mnouschikine as a set designer. Solo and with his collective, 1980s, he has shown his work in several galleries in France and abroad. He currently has studios in Fontainebleau, just outside of Paris, and in Beijing.
