AKET
France • 1989
Presentation
Self-taught painter since his youth, Aket's first influences are comics and graffiti.
Today, his main influence comes from cubism even if he likes a lot the work of Combas or Basquiat.
Since his childhood, he signs under the pseudo AKET which comes from the time when he realizes his first graffiti.
This nickname comes from a physical characteristic that is his own, from a punchline of a rap group.
Like a return to his roots, it is quite naturally that he signs his first paintings under the name of AKET ten years later.
His style evolving with time, he now realizes destructured portraits by multiplying the elements and forms of the face as well as by accentuating the features and lines.
Moreover, we find in his work the influence of cubist painters such as Picasso or Condo. Aket shapes faces into playful forms. Sometimes abstract, sometimes figurative, but always cubic.
Attempting to reflect a time when the world is freezing over, he plays with French expressions and verbal jousting that he draws from everyday life, especially music.
From bar scenes to musicians, Aket likes to represent life and the multiple facets that make up a person.
His black strokes allow him to underline the different complex shapes passing from one to the other forming a face with multiple facets.
In perpetual research and evolution, he now devotes himself to scenes of life, interior or exterior scenes. The final of each of his works gives life to the representation of scenes and daily actions.
