Nicole Decote

Nicole Decote has carefully explored all genres. After taking courses at the Nancy School of Fine Art, the artist went on to perfect her skills in a number of workshops, practising still life, landscape, portraiture, geometric abstraction, hyperrealism and abstract expressionism.

Deeply attuned to what she sees, she develops a rigorous and generous practice, reflecting her desire to pass on to her public the pleasure of seeing and feeling.

The "Caribbean blue" that inspired the artist during her long stay in the West Indies and the intense tones of the sea and sky become the raw material of a practice that links the skill of the hand, the mastery of the gesture, and the artist's intuitive trust in chance.

Refusing to follow a precise direction or to constrain her practice, Nicole DECOTE creates compositions that range from abstraction to the representation of more familiar forms, from subtle and restrained chromatisms to sustained colour variations and contrasts.

The coloured patches that emerge from her creations are the fruit of an observation of the world and a sensitive experience.
