Biography

Andrea Borella was born in Livorno (1946), breathing its moods and that strange atmosphere, made up of tradition and promiscuity, from the scent of the countryside to the acrid, penetrating and pungent smell of the sea. He began his artistic career as a self-taught in 1976, surrounded by a thousand stimuli and examples that manage to involve him and drag him into an exciting adventure that still continues today. After the first phase of experimentation, he found himself painting from life, "en plein air" for about a year. The initial lack of scholastic notions leads him to use only the three "basic" colors (red, yellow and blue) added to white, thus making an effort to look for possible combinations to reproduce what he sees on the canvas, using the white and yellow, to get the right color. A "forced" apprenticeship that will be very useful in the continuation of his activity.

Later, recalling that difficult but full of enthusiasm period, in his book "My Painting" I realize by experimenting, that in nature no color is "from a tube", everything must be combined and tested; I was able to make my paintings decently, but only after so many trials, I painted little in the studio, much more often in the open air - with a pinch of continuous melancholy - I didn't give up on painting in the open even on the coldest days, what I was able to do, it repaid me abundantly for the cold I suffered> In 1984 Borella decided to enroll and attend the Tossi-Uberti Academy of Fine Arts for 5 years, in order to re-test the technique acquired "in the field" and compare it with the dictates: scholastic/academic. This cycle of studies will lead him to meet some teachers, who, as painters, will find them exhibiting their works together in various group exhibitions.

A long-time professional, his paintings are exhibited with lasting success as well as in Italy, abroad, such as Lugano (Jansoius Art Gallery), California USA (Art Hause Gallery), Kuala Lampur (Malaysia) passing through Montecarlo (Sala Congressi ) but above all since 2000 he has attracted the attention of great collectors and art amateurs in Tokyo (Japan) where over twenty personal exhibitions have been set up for him, and where he currently continues to have working relationships.

From 2000 to 2009 he was invited countless times to Japan, where each time two personal exhibitions were set up at the same time; these, always sponsored by the highest governmental institutions, were located in the most important cities of that country: Tokyo, Osaka, Aomori, Sapporo, Tsuruka, Nigata, Nagata, Kyoto, Kameoka, Tokorozawa, Kamisuwa, to then also reach less well-known locations such as Maebashi, Chiba, Matsudo, kofu.
