Ryan Crotty

Ryan Crotty is a North American artist from Auburn, Nebraska. After earning a bachelor's degree in painting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he earned a master's degree from Syracuse University.

Heir to Colorfield Painting popularized by Rothko, he uses a very particular technique which uses only the 3 primary colors of the light spectrum, in the form of translucent gels which he mixes directly on the canvas using long spatulas.

He completely overturns the paradigm of the painter: it is not brushstrokes that create his compositions, but the structure of the canvas support, its irregularities in its surface and its materiality.

He thus questions our visual interpretation of a two-dimensional surface and helps us reach our moment of aesthetic grace through large abstract areas of color and the visual vibrations they arouse.

Ryan Crotty is represented worldwide by several renowned art galleries, including the prestigious High Noon Gallery in New York and the Galerie Robertson Arès in Montreal, where his works continue to fascinate and inspire an ever-widening audience.
