Self-taught, having grown up with a seamstress grandmother and in the workshop of a painter artisan grandfather, she developed a taste for working with materials very early on. This early learning, at the crossroads of fine arts and applied arts, gives him a freedom that cares little about the boundaries between disciplines. Freed from the functional register, Frédérique Domergue today creates paintings that express her creativity and technical mastery.

Close to abstraction, Frédérique Domergue draws her inspiration from nature and the seaside. Her paintings evoke landscapes, skies and waters that are sometimes calm and serene, sometimes tormented, dark and ablaze. The horizon line around which his compositions often revolve is where land, sea and sky meet and merge. This is where the elements merge.

Frédérique Domergue works with metal, which she hijacks and explores in all its possibilities. The artist reveals her palette of colors and textures through polishing and oxidation. Her paintings invite us to discover - even to touch - their smooth or rough surface. The oxidation process is constantly evolving, as the material develops a patina over time, and the work becomes a witness to the passage of time.
