Quarshie Abednego Dela born in 1993 in Ghana.
Dela Quarshie's work explores the relationship between opinion, influence, emotions in conjunction with memories. His artistic expedition began at a young age, exploring body art (face painting), where it evolved into a non-verbal expression of ideas and concepts. This ultimately gave rise to a study of how people interact, communicating their opinions, emotions and the impact of external elements that form new synergies shaped by the intertwining of traditional and modern layers. Through the use of anthropomorphic beings, it explores society's diverse conversations and perspectives, while creating space to challenge them. He pursued studies in artistic painting in the HND option at the Technical University of Takoradi and furthered his studies in Animation & illustration, graduating with first class honors. Dela's career has gained notoriety as a dynamic one, having worked as a tutor, artistic director and GKA course lecturer for Home Economics and Visual Arts, to name but a few. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Paint-Sculpt Art Jury, American Embassy Annual Exhibition, Ogirikan Art Gallery in Lagos and most recently the Ghana Institute Museum . His work is characterized by expert use of acrylic paint and oils on canvas, the works being a combination of closed forms with colors representing gemstones, with rendered clothing.
Dela Quarshie will have his first museum exhibition called “Persistence of my dream" at the Institute museum of Ghana at only 29 years old and also at the same time at the Médicis Gallery, at 61 rue du faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, the only gallery representing the artist in Europe, from April 15 to May 5, 2024.
