Biography
Born in 1970 in Murino, Leningrad Oblast, Russia, Olga Tobreluts trained as an architect but is now an accomplished artist working with photography, video, painting and sculpture. Since the 1990s, Tobreluts has given up painting to concentrate on computer graphics combined with photography and 3D modeling. She became a pioneer of the digital art movement in Russia. Tobreluts' artistic approach evokes the ideas of the followers of neo-academism when she seeks to achieve a realistic resemblance between the 3D image of a human body created using the computer and that represented in the form of an academic drawing.
Olga Tobreluts explores the adaptive evolution of human visual perception in the 21st century and proposes new forms of visual expression that discuss the simulation of reality and "looking real" in our technologically advanced era . As one of the first contemporary artists to have opted for modern computer technologies as a medium, she has developed her own unique but perfectly recognizable style. Tobreluts' works of art seem to be complicated manipulations, in which historical realities and myths of modern culture merge with the aim of being transformed into magical super reality.
