Biography
Belo Horizonte, MG.
Lucia graduated from the Aliança Francesa in her city of birth with a degree in French language and literature in 1970. She made São Paulo her home starting in 1978 and worked in French multinationals as an executive assistant.
In 1983, she gave up her career to devote herself exclusively to art in 1983, steadily building a consistent curriculum with 24 solo exhibitions and over 100 participations in group shows around the world. Of those, the following solos are worth mentioning: Key Biscayne, USA (1991), Aliança Francesa in São Paulo (1992), University of Georgia School of Ecology, Athens, USA, and Espaço Cultural do Banco Central, São Paulo (1997).
She had individual exhibitions at Galeria Jacques Ardies in 1994 and 2008, and more recently, at the exhibition space at the Sofitel Jequitimar Hotel, Guarujá. Among her awards is the Public Selection Prize obtained at the 27th Concours International de Peinture Primitive Moderne, organized by Galerie Pro Arte Kasper, Morges, Switzerland, in 1998. Lucia Buccini's work expresses her simple way of living, marked by memories of vacations spent at her family's farm in the state of Minas Gerais. Art critic Ernestina Karmann passionately wrote that "she paints carefully as if her goal was to build an ideal world, free of ecological disruptions, opening white façades on a house that seems to sing among the various greens and floral arrangements".
