Founded in 1993 by Nathalie Lamire-Fabre, the Arrêt sur l'Image gallery has established itself over the past thirty years as a leading venue dedicated to photography and contemporary art. Originally housed in a 25-square-meter space, the gallery inaugurated its first exhibition on May 10, 1993, with Pierre Boulat, centered around a project exploring the legacy of Christopher Columbus. From its inception, Arrêt sur l'Image has maintained a demanding and distinctive approach, showcasing major artists such as Alice Springs, Beat Presser, Nicolas Bouvier, Flor Garduño, Ernst Scheidegger, and Bernard Plossu. A visual artist by training, Nathalie Lamire-Fabre gradually expanded the gallery's exhibition scope by presenting, alongside photography, unique works by renowned designers and visual artists, including Eduardo Chillida, Antoni Tàpies, Richard Serra, Frank Gehry, Rafael Canogar, and Anna Shanon. In 2001, the gallery moved to its first location, Hangar G2, in the Bassins à Flot district of Bordeaux, which was then undergoing significant transformation. It continued its development by creating the art+business department, dedicated to the distribution and sale of contemporary artworks and furniture to businesses and professionals. Since 2013, Arrêt sur l'Image has been located at 45 Cours du Médoc in Bordeaux, where it continues to champion a demanding program, attentive to contemporary artistic expression, while also assisting private and professional collectors in building their collections.
