From January 4 to February 24, 2024, 193 Gallery is proud to present Entrelazos, a group exhibition bringing together the works of four Central American artists: Zoila Andrea Coc-Chang (Guatemala/China), Antonio Pichilla Quiancain (Guatemala), Risseth Yangüez Singh (Panama) and Simon Vega (El Salvador), curated by Alejandra Josefina Paz.
It took a collision of terrestrial plates for a volcanic chain to appear under the sea around fifteen million years ago. The pressure was such that the sea floor emerged in the form of islands which, over the years, became part of a continent. Central America is a natural connection between the countries of the north and the south, where several cultural convergences exist.
The Entrelazos exhibition brings together four artists from the once submerged region who explore where differences come together. Their views gravitate towards a multiple material and discursive choice like the cultural heterogeneity of the territory. Here, historical moments, identity phenomena and cultural heritages are represented and dialogue to resist.
