Gold Diggers/
Gold Diggers is a small sample of three paintings that follows the series "Blue as Velours."
In nocturnal scenes and landscapes, forests, or imaginary still lifes, the viewer will find mysterious characters.
Dream worlds, pristine nature, and ancestral human hopes are intertwined.
Technique: The technique of painting on velvet lends a special atmosphere to this series. The subjects or objects are painted in negative with ultramarine blue pigment. The figure is then left "white" (on black velvet) and defined by its contours. This technique provides a unique sensation of nightlight, of moonlight. Ultramarine blue can be associated with feelings of nostalgia and melancholy (the Blues), and also lends each painting a sense of mystery. Black velvet, chosen to absorb the greatest amount of light, also carries the symbol of a noble material, softness, or theatricality. The contrast and association of these two sensations inspire the title Blue as Velvet.
