Straight Out the Hood is a long-term project exploring the dark and invisible side of street life, from troubled neighborhoods to impoverished areas.

In this series, Brice Gelot focuses on highlighting the harsh realities of street life, giving visibility to those on the margins of society: gang members, the homeless, drug addicts, and more. Through his work, he seeks to foster empathy and understanding for individuals often ignored or relegated to invisibility, while challenging preconceived notions and showcasing the resilience and strength of those who face adversity.

Convinced that images can be a powerful tool for social change, Brice Gelot sees photography as a means of opening up dialogue around the most pressing issues of our time. Her work aims to raise awareness and inform, deconstruct stereotypes, and foster a better understanding of social realities, while addressing essential themes such as poverty, street violence, humanitarian crises, social justice, and human rights.

The photographs presented are from photojournalism projects carried out in Los Angeles (USA), Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Mexico City (Mexico), as well as from a project focusing on figures within the mafia in Naples (Italy).
