The exhibition "Plant Vibrations" presents new works by Swiss artist Barbara Ellmerer, whose practice is fundamentally dedicated to the inner life of plants. The paintings on display originate from the artist's seismographic perceptions, her brushstrokes transforming vibrations, flows, and condensations into layers of vibrant color.

In this exhibition, symbiosis and cooperation are celebrated as driving forces of life. The artist thus sought to represent, in her own way, the theories of biologist Lynn Margulis. Her recent works conceive of plants as equal partners who determine chromatic dynamics, unfolding in delicate networks and halftone layers, allowing the paint to move and breathe. Barbara Ellmerer has a knack for surprising viewers with her placement of eruptive colors and her elastic, oscillating brushstrokes, which lend an intense presence to pictorial forms that are at once powerful, sensitive, and subtle. Her works invite viewers to immerse themselves in fields of vibrant color and to experience painting as a process of rupture and transformation.

Barbara Ellmerer, born in 1956, exhibits her work continuously in international galleries and museums. Her works have been shown, among others, at the Lalit Kala Akademi Museum in New Delhi (India), the Casa Museo Mariátegui in Lima (Peru), the Chiang Mai Social Installation (CMSI) in Bangkok (Thailand), at the invitation of the Goethe Institute, the Museum of Art and History in Neuchâtel (Switzerland), and the Kunsthaus Biel, Centre d’Art in Biel (Switzerland), for the exhibition (Un)Certain Ground – Contemporary Painting in Switzerland, to name just a few. Her works are also held in numerous public collections.

The Andres Thalmann Gallery is delighted to present Barbara Ellmerer’s first solo exhibition in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré district of Paris.
