Every form emerges from a tension between what we know and what does not yet exist. In Alisa Gorelova’s work, this tension is found in drawing: a line that studies, corrects, disappears and reappears until it discovers new possibilities.
Her academic training is rooted in a rigorous tradition, but not in order to reproduce it. Alisa uses her knowledge of anatomy as a starting point from which to alter proportions, superimpose figures and push representation into a territory where figuration and abstraction begin to blur.
Here, different visions of the body meet and exist simultaneously: the verticality of Gothic art, the complexity of Mannerism, the intensity of the Baroque, and the new images being shaped today by digital culture, social media, cosmetics and biotechnology.
In Becoming, painting does not remain still either. It leaves the canvas, occupies the walls and enters into dialogue with the architecture of Gallery Can Boni. Painting, graphic work, collage, mural and textile installation become parts of the same space.
The exhibition is not experienced from a single point of view: it is walked through. And as we move through it, our gaze changes too.
