The Artset Gallery brings together Roger Bissière, Louttre.B, and Jean Messagier in an exhibition exploring their relationship to nature, landscape, and territory.
The 1960s constitute the starting point of this exhibition. For Bissière, they correspond to the last years of a long artistic journey; for Louttre.B and Messagier, they mark a period of affirmation and new pictorial freedoms. Earlier and later works enrich this dialogue, with particular attention given to the mature paintings of Louttre.B.
Rather than suggesting the existence of a common style, the exhibition highlights a shared sensibility: the landscape is not simply a subject to be represented, but a lived experience, transformed into signs, materials, colors, and movements.
For Roger Bissière, this link takes root in Boissièrette, in the Lot. The light, the trees, and the rhythm of the seasons nourish a painting in which the visible world progressively transforms under the effect of memory.
His son, Louttre.B, grew up in this same place, where he would later work. Yet, this shared environment gives birth to a singular artistic language. Materials, signs, architectural forms, and fragments of landscape structure his painting. In his later works, vivid colors and the freedom of gesture bring landscapes, everyday objects, plants, and animals into a freely reinvented universe.
For Jean Messagier, the landscapes of Franche-Comté become a source of movement and metamorphosis. The wind, the water, the snow, the vegetation, and the light inspire a gesture that translates the energy of the living world, abolishing the boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
The exhibition also testifies to the lasting ties that the Artset Gallery maintains with the artists and their families since its founding in 1989. Archival photographs reproduced in the catalogue recall, in particular, the presence of Louttre.B at the gallery in 1991, alongside Jean-Claude Hyvernaud.
This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Jean-Claude Hyvernaud, father of Antoine Hyvernaud, director of the gallery.
The catalogue accompanying the exhibition brings together texts by Antoine Hyvernaud and Romain Mathieu, as well as reproductions of the works and archival photographs.
