Why Stranger in a Strange Land?

Stranger in a Strange Land is a 1961 science fiction novel by American author Robert A. Heinlein. It tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human who comes to Earth after being born on the planet Mars and raised by Martians. The title of the book comes from the bible, old testament Exodus 2:22 and refers to the son of Moses who was born after they came in Egypt.

The book and title have inspired many artists, there are over 10 songs listed in Wikipedia with this title and even television series are based on it. Anet Duncan found inspiration in the title and in the word inventions in the book. The book contains invented words by Heinlein, one of them being Grok, what made it into the dictionary. It means to be with, to comprehend, to love.. And Anet Duncan took this as Groc, Catalan for Yellow and currently the sign used in the independence movement in Catalonia for liberating the politicians who are in prison. But then Yellow has many other significations, from sunny and happy emotions to wisdom and reason.

The exhibition doesn’t want to make a political statement, but does want us all to look at our world as if we are Strangers in a Strange Land. The artist shows us a different way of looking at our environment.
