Biography

Fredy Escobar Vega, a multifaceted character, was born in Cochabamba and currently resides in La Paz, Bolivia. He considers himself Bolivian-Venezuelan by conviction. He studied arts at the Superior Institute for Plastic Arts Raul G. Prada in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He later worked with two renowned Latin American muralists; the Venezuelan, Gabriel Bracho, and the Chilean, Brenan Meza. Upon his return to Bolivia, Escobar Vega co-founded a group of Bolivian muralists, the Oscar Alfaro Brigade (BOA, for its Spanish acronym). Escobar Vega's murals can be found throughout Latin America: in many Venezuelan cities; in Cochabamba and La Paz, in Bolivia; in Florianopolis, Brazil; just to mention a few locations. Apart from his murals, he has also created sculptures for multi-functional urban structures. 

His paintings have been exhibited in Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, the United States, and Germany. He has also participated of several biennial and triennial collective exhibitions throughout Latin America. He has won several awards at a national level, in Venezuela and Bolivia. Apart from his career as a practicing plastic artist, he is also a university scholar, and has taught courses at Venezuelan and Bolivian universities, among them at the National Academy of Fine Arts in La Paz. 

Fredy Escobar has also written and published several essays on topics related to art, politics, law, and philosophy. Apart from his degree in fine arts, he holds a bachelor´s degree in philosophy from the University of Zulia, Venezuela; and a bachelor´s degree in political sciences and law from the Universidad Mayor de San Simon in Cochabamba. He is currently a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Law, from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, in Monterrey, México.
