Biography
A renowned modern impressionist and expressionist painter, Zhang Daqian was born in China's Sichuan Province in 1899. Owing to a turbulent political climate in his homeland, the artist left China and ultimately settled in California, USA where he began his career. Daqian's artistic style is characterized by traditional Chinese painting techniques combined with a bold splashed painting style (pocai).
Over the course of his career, Daqian was invited to exhibit his work at The Louvre and Musée Guimet in Paris, alongside other artistic masters such as Pablo Picasso. The artist died in 1983.
