YAN-KANG QIAN (1910 - ): Yan-Kang Qian was a Chinese painter born around 1910 in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. In 1929, he enrolled in the Western Painting Department of the Suzhou Art School, where he studied under Yan Wenliang, one of the pioneers of Western-style painting in China. Qian graduated with first-class honors in 1933 and went on to pursue a career as a painter and educator. He later served as a teacher at the Xing Zhi Art School in Shanghai and held leadership positions in the Oil Painting Department of the Hubei Art Academy. In 1960, he participated in the collaborative painting , which was subsequently displayed in the Hubei Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Qian was particularly recognized for his richly colored watercolor and oil paintings of landscapes, flowers, city scenes, and figures, combining Western painting techniques with a distinctly Chinese sensibility. He retired to Shanghai in 1978.
