Presentation

Erick Ifergan is a French-American filmmaker, photographer and visual artist. He studied film and photography at UCLA Los Angeles.

He began his career in Paris in the 80's designing record covers for the greatest French artists. At the same time he directed music videos for Souchon, Goldman, Bruel and advertising campaigns for Dior, Sony, Nintendo, Audi, and many others.

In 1990 he moved to Los Angeles where he directed music videos for world famous artists like Rod Stewart, Tori Amos, Isaac Hayes. For his work, he received more than a hundred international awards such as the Silver Lion in Cannes, the Golden Epica in the United Kingdom and the AICP in the USA.

In 1998 he began writing his own work, the independent feature film Johnny 316. Erick Ifergan produced and directed the film with Vincent Gallo, Seymour Cassel, Louise Fletcher and Nina Brosh as lead actors. Between 1998 and 2007 he continued directing commercials and directed stars such as Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johanson and Eva Longoria.

In 2007 in Los Angeles he signed an exclusive contract with producer Ridley Scott to direct films and advertising campaigns. In parallel, he continues his personal work with the short film Divine Presence in 2008, then, recently, with his series of photos American nights in Los Angeles. For more than a year he has been making these portraits staged at night in the empty streets of the City of Angels.

This series is the logical continuation of his personal work as a filmmaker on his favorite subject, the theme of loneliness in the great American metropolis. Ifergan likes to work on the mental dimension and the invisible of things. He gives his characters a depth that takes us to the heart of the human soul, while remaining deeply rooted in reality.

He exhibited in Paris, Los Angeles and in 2010 he was selected for the Moscow Biennale of Photography. In 2011, he moved occasionally to the south of France. He set up studios in Grasse and Vallauris where he will devote himself to ceramics. He continues to work on the drawing of which the ceramics are the representation in volume.

In 2012, he participated in Art Basel Miami, represented by the gallery LULU installed in California. The Museum of History and Ceramics Biotoises discovered his work in Vallauris during a group exhibition and offered him a monographic exhibition for the summer of 2013.
