Being a rural artist according to her, Marie Labat gives a main place to craftmanship as well as to the Relationship between man and nature. The work of the earth is at the origin of a whole civilization, of his culture and his evolution. To study the way in which people exploits nature and to derive their subsistance allows us to learn a lot about the actual state of a society, its values and its objectives.
Marie Labat is interested mainly in landscapes, which means in a wild space modified by man with a logic of appropiation. From this geographic delimitation, the artist studies the myths, the codes and the legends of the area, doing a visual work that allows him to create new landscapes, from his own apprehension of the existing one.
