Laura Mateare

Laura Mateare is a French-Italian artist living in Paris. She earned her doctorate in general medicine in 2023 from Paris-Saclay University, where she wrote a thesis entitled “The Benefits of Exposure to Art in Preventing Burnout Among General Medicine Interns in the Île-de-France Region," which was awarded a bronze medal. She also develops her artistic practice.

According to the artist, there is a balance between transparency and opacity that allows light to create patterns in the darkness. After exploring numerous artistic techniques, Laura Mateare chose to combine her childhood passions: silk painting and embroidery. She finds great freedom in creating her own supports, sometimes blending linen and cotton with silk. These combinations, along with embroidery, allow her to capture the textures of the life that surrounds us.

She aspires to create a living work of art. Depending on the time of day, the interplay of light casts shadows behind the canvas. Inspired by her parents' Italy, the flowers of Yasmine Mei, the poetry of Baudelaire, the overripe fruit at the market, and empty chairs awaiting a meeting, it is a gentle way of life that the artist seeks to immortalize through her paintings.
