CORBZE is a painter with roots in graffiti culture; he discovered pictorial expression through urban spaces at a very young age. In his current work, he explores optical effects.
Originally from the Parisian suburbs, CORBZE (1987) is a painter from the graffiti culture, he discovered pictorial expression very early on through urban space.
For many years, he developed his practice in the street, using a wide variety of media and surfaces, from murals on facades to more private spaces.
This field experience led him to paint in all corners of France and abroad, enriching his visual language through encounters, travels and cultural contexts.
During this period, he gradually forged a unique graphic universe, characterized by an original and immediately recognizable calligraphy.
His work draws on the energy of graffiti while breaking free from its traditional codes to explore new artistic forms.
Drawing on several years of practice, he now translates this research into studio work focused on painting on canvas.
Through his paintings, CORBZE continues a reflection on the tag, the original signature of graffiti, generally made with spray paint, marker or engraving, as quickly as possible, to be affixed to as many surfaces as possible.
Using new techniques, he presents a reinterpretation of tagging on the canvas while retaining the dynamism of the movement and the spontaneity of the initial gesture.
His work establishes a constant dialogue between the heritage of the street and the demands of studio work, giving birth to a personal artistic language where calligraphy, abstraction, and contemporary expression meet.
In his current research, he is working on optical effects.
It is inspired by an often unwanted effect from photography, which creates a distortion of colors and alters the sharpness of the outlines of an element.
By transposing this chromatic aberration to painting, he deliberately disturbs the viewer's vision, initially revealing abstract forms and a play of colors and textures, which after a thorough reading unveils the tag or part of it.
