Born in Sardinia and raised in Ornans, across from Gustave Courbet's house, Rita Cau developed a special sensitivity to colors, light, and a connection to the earth at a very early age, while still leaving room for dreams. A nurse by profession, she has always been a self-taught painter out of passion. Her artistic expression first manifested itself through drawing, gouache, watercolor, and acrylic on wood.

Starting in 2012, Rita Cau naturally turned to oil painting, responding to a need for texture and substance. This technique has allowed her to explore an infinite color palette, which she experiments with on her canvases. Her work focuses primarily on oil painting, often on canvas or linen, with an approach that blends Impressionism and figurative art. Through her works, she seeks to interpret nature, emotions, and humanity, affirming that life is beautiful despite its trials. Her painting seeks to express this conviction by capturing the light and atmospheres around her, often inspired by landscapes and scenes of daily life observed during her walks. Rita Cau thus pursues an artistic approach in which texture, color, and light interact to convey a poetic and human vision of the world around her.
