The desert (land) and the sea were born at the same time. In this pastel work, I always begin with the sky and I practice the smudge, a very quick smudge, with large movements, in order to quickly bring the light down onto my support. In contrast to the sea and the desert, I exclude the smudge and work with chalk strokes, in order to
express the material granularity as the entanglement of forms and colors. This work presented here reflects this search for creation, combining color, pastel technique, movement and immobility. In this work, the ocher color is relatively present but it is not really a coincidence since the etymology (Egyptian) of the word desert is "ochre earth and sterile".
Sea and desert are distinguished but not separated. Between the sea and the desert, the interface is not defined, such as a rock emerging from the waters, such as countless pebbles building dykes, such as a beach sculpted by the current and the wind, such as a nocturnal dune unfolding its wings, such as the sun that drowns without distinction its light on the Sea and Desert…
