Biography

Lionel Derimais has been a photographer for over 40 years. He worked in New York (where he studied photography at the ICP), London, Tokyo, Brussels, and Paris before spending a few years in China. He has also worked extensively throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
His favorite subjects are people and human activities.
Over the years, his work has been published in *National Geographic France*, the *New York Times*, the *International Herald Tribune*, *The Times*, *L'Express*, and *Paris Match*, to name a few examples.
In recent years, his black and white photographs have been published by Cafe Royal Books in England, addressing themes such as London, the Tokyo subway, New York, and Moulton bicycles.
In November 2020, he self-published a book gathering his photographs taken in China, entitled *Cultural Evolution / China 2005 - 2010*. This book is now in the collections of more than 25 university libraries in the USA and others, including the Library of Congress, Harvard, Berkeley, La Contemporaine, the British Library, and the universities of Hamburg and Geneva.
Since 2024, the Library of Congress in Washington has been preserving 27 black and white prints of his photographs taken in 1980 in an elementary school in Arlington Heights, Los Angeles.
He is currently based in London.
