Guillaume Herbaut

France • 1970

Biography

When he was 11, he spent all his spare time in the local library near his appartment building in Charenton-le-Pont, a Parisian suburb. He discovered the world of photography in books about Jacques-Henri Lartigue and Robert Cappa. Five years on, still under the spell of these books about the masters of photography, he produced his first real photographic feature.

It was on the French charity Emmaüs, which was 100 metres from his home. Since then he has always been interested in in-depth stories, and in particular he explores the collective memory of places that are steeped in history such as Chernobyl, Auschwitz, and Nagasaki. He is a founding member of the Œil Public agency, and his work is represented by the American agency, Institute.
