Gilles Nicolas

Born in Paris on September 22, 1958, Gilles Nicolas studied and practiced engraving and lithography under the direction of the painter and engraver Mathéos Florakis in Berlin, then in the studio of the painter Geneviève Couteau in Clisson. He takes part in numerous exhibitions, exhibits in Nantes and Brussels. On the basis of this work and in response to the orders of museums, since 1990 he has been developing a sculpture activity and the creation of dioramas with plans and mirrors. His works are exhibited at the Center Georges Pompidou, at the City of Sciences and Industry, at the National Museum of Natural History, at the Eiffel Tower, at the Hotel Meurice, at the Musée de l'Homme ... In 2010, the creation of accessories for Carolyn Carlson initiated a long collaboration with the choreographer, which continued until the creation of the sets for "Seeds" in 2016. At the same time, Gilles Nicolas teaches and leads workshops at ENSATT, ESAT and the ENSA of Nantes. For 20 years, his personal work has favored animal sculpture in bronze.
