Biography

In the streets of the 13th arrondissement of Paris, curious characters can appear at every crossroads. We would almost be fooled by their realistic aspects and their funny situations. These silhouettes belong to the street art universe of Levalet, whose real name is Charles Leval. Born in 1988 in Epinal, Levalet grew up in Guadeloupe before returning to the Metropolis at the age of 17. At the age of 13, he began to paint on the island, from one wall to another, but it was on his return that he studied art at the Beaux-Arts in Strasbourg. The theater, audiovisual, photography, sculpture and painting attract and inspire him just as much, but it is towards the plastic arts that he decides to orient himself and passes aggregation. From India ink, applied on Kraft paper, he develops a series of characters that he will stick and stage on the walls of Paris. Between poetry and parody, the portraits he draws have their own aesthetic. Always animated by the performing arts, theater, mime, cinema, Levalet will draw on their graphic codes and their references to re-use them in the plastic arts. He will form a company of fictitious actors in the street who will respond to passers-by by their gestures or the stories they evoke. Not so imaginary as that, Levalet's hyperrealistic heroes come to life from photographs of relatives or even self-portraits of the artist. They are reproduced on scale collages, which contributes to the trompe l'oeil sensation desired by the street artist. In this way, Levalet's figures can interact with their audiences as well as with their context. A dialogue that takes place at three levels, that of drawing, architecture and the walker. The freedom that the Parisian capital offers it, both in terms of street furniture and in terms of its policy, the Paris town hall tries to promote the young artists who practice graffiti and other urban arts in the 13th arrondissement, constantly frees its creativity. His paper beings have a very pronounced body language and lead us without difficulty in their artistic adventures. Each time they find themselves in absurd and funny scenes which mock our daily life as much as it brightens it up. Through illusion, Levalet makes us slide into a fictitious reality, a reality that seduces us. Zenoy is from the western suburbs of Paris. He discovered graffiti in the late 1980s at the start of the Graffiti / Hip Hop movement. After all these years he still has the same motivation and the same enthusiasm when it comes to graffiti. So even though vandal mode isn't like it used to be and a page has turned, ZENOY continues to be productive and creative. His ideas and concepts come together and he gradually becomes a true artist in the field of contemporary art.
