Presentation

Jean Rustin is a French painter, born March 3, 1928 in Montigny-lès-Metz (Moselle) and died in Paris on December 24, 2013.

Jean Rustin's work is characterized by the contrast between two periods. The first testifies to a joyful and very colorful abstraction. But an important retrospective of a hundred of his paintings at the museum of modern art of the city of Paris, in 1971, marks the artist. He is in fact overwhelmed by the vision of all of his works, which he will judge from then on "too beautiful" and he will declare: "I had had enough of making a masterpiece a day8!"

He therefore breaks with this abstraction in favor of a figuration revealing a dark universe, close to madness. One of his latest exhibitions is entitled "Erotic Psychiatric Blue" (Legnano, 2007).
