Presentation

Caroline Veith was born in Le Havre in 1958.

She is a graduate of the ENSAAMA School.

Caroline Veith is developing today a unique way of connecting various aspects of the world. Some of her small-format works stage encounters between two or three characters, and others, larger ones, present numerous characters. In both cases, they are all close from the others but seem to live in a world in which they are alone.

In her works, everything depends on the paper, especially when the paper, in relationship with the light, becomes transparent and reveals layers that are otherwise invisible. The power of paper comes from the fact that it can resist to everything, throughout history or through the short and sudden time intervals of human gestures. Because paper can be scratched, traced on, folded twisted, unfolded? one has to try everything to free its interior breathing closed within. The paper is the clothing of dreams.

It is often colorless, just a network of lines of various thicknesses, various types of ink, suggesting various functions: forming a face, indicating a direction, creating a flower, a hand, covering a memory, drawing a fragment of a map, taking out a detail of a memory while drowning another one in a dark stain, opening a road or making a mountain crumble?

Through a game of ?invisible? surfaces on which the various elements that compose the artwork live, Caroline Veith creates a body of work that becomes a vector for her troubles. This is what gives her practice a magical power.
