Marie-Agnès Périgault

France • 1947

Biography

Born in 1947 in a small village in Loire, Marie-Agnès Périgault is a French photographer, who lives and works in France.

After a career in surgery, it's Barthes La Chambre Claire's book which made her turn towards photography. She did a technical internship with Serge Picard, the photographer in 1995 then gave up surgery for good in 2002, to dedicate herself entirely to photography.

She works on themes like water, stone, Earth, the human body and its texture through movement and sexual identity. The evolution of her approach led her to seek the non-material side of the mysterious elevation. Between shadow and light, life and death, body and matter.

Some of her photos were bought by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and are also presented during solo collections.
