Presentation

Aline Gagnaire is a French artist born in 1911 and died in 1997.

She was part of the generation of surrealists painters in Paris creating during the occupation, she worked with the Dadaist group called "des Réverbères" and that of "La Main à Plume". She made calligrams, rag boards, wall pictures, all while still publishing articles in the journals of the mentioned groups.

She married painter André Pouget in 1942 and moved with him to Tarn, where she immersed herself in her pictorial research, having never received an artistic training, strictly speaking, what makes her work reminicent of the raw art of Jean Dubuffet for example, even though her work belongs to a surrealist style mostly.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous private and collective exhibitions in many internationally renowned places and events such as the Venise Biennale in 1986, or the Surindenpendants Fair.
