Bronze Sculpture for Sale
Joseph Bayol (born in 1931) is a contemporary French painter based in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, whose work is part of the great tradition of figurative painting, Provençal landscape, and still life. Born under the sun of Provence, he developed a passion for drawing and painting very early on, traveling his region with his sketchbooks before transcribing the emotions gathered from the subject in the studio. From the age of fifteen, his talent was noticed and encouraged by several major figures in Provençal painting, notably Auguste Chabaud, René Seyssaud, and Albert Gleizes, who recognized in him a promising artist.
For several decades, Joseph Bayol has built a body of work deeply attached to the observation of nature and light. His work is characterized by the use of natural pigments, chalks, inks, pastels, pencil, and oil paint, applied mainly on canvas and paper. His artistic universe explores a wide diversity of subjects: landscapes, gardens, flowers, greenhouses, train stations, cliffs, interiors of churches, Provençal countryside, or still lifes. Frequently working in series, he constantly renews his view on the same themes in order to reveal their variations in light, color, and atmosphere.
Deeply inspired by Provence but also by his many travels, Bayol favors a sensitive painting where composition, material, and color occupy an essential place. His approach remains faithful to a demanding pictorial tradition while developing a personal writing imbued with poetry and serenity. His work is often linked to classical academicism and contemporary figurative painting, while claiming a freedom of interpretation nourished by the direct observation of reality.
The artist has regularly exhibited his work for several decades. Among the documented exhibitions is a presentation at Artclub, rue de Rivoli in Paris, from September 22 to October 22, 2007, as well as a permanent Artclub exhibition organized from May 11 to June 27, 2020. His works are now present on the international art market and are regularly the subject of public sales and presentations by specialized galleries.
Through his humility, his fidelity to the Provençal pictorial tradition, and his mastery of classical techniques, Joseph Bayol pursues a career dedicated to the celebration of light, nature, and the Mediterranean landscape. His work appeals to collectors sensitive to landscape painting, Provençal painting, French figurative painting, as well as artists who are heirs to the great masters of Provence.
